Finally available in Rishikesh: tasty and truly organic veggies. Where? At the lovely holistic shop STREE in Tapovan. Seriously, never before have we tasted such aromatic vegetables here in the region. But apart from fresh produce grown on their own land just outside Rishikesh, the Stree team actually offers a multi-level experience – in their store, on their farm as well as online. Products, classes, courses and consultations for conscious living in harmony with nature.
The Stree shop is located next to Tattv Cafe and has a large variety of beautiful and ethically produced clothes, bags, essential oils and other wellness items. You can buy organic food, vegetables grown according to traditional methods and homemade chutneys as well as artisan shawls, blouses and kurtas, yoga pants and tops, bags, hairproducts, homeware and jewellery.
Most of Stree’s products are made by local women, while others are sourced from eco friendly organisations around India. In fact, Stree has been supporting weavers, farmers and eco-product artisans from the regions of Rishikesh, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andra Pradesh and Kerala in India.
Though the Stree website features an online shop, it is in the actual store in Tapovan where you will find the largest variety of their beautiful products. GeetaJi (see photo) is the good heart of the shop and assists you if you have any queries.
Originally working as lawyer in the UK, Sree‘s founder Renu Gulati decided to leave the corporate career behind and persue her passion for Yoga and Ayurveda. She is dedicated to protecting Mother Nature and supporting Women’s empowerment in India through local eco-friendly products as well as services and education around Ayurveda.
Ayurveda translates as ‘wisdom of life’. It is not only a healing system but an entire approach to life. The essence of Ayurveda is to live in harmony with nature‘s rhythms and the cosmos. In this way, individuals and societies become and remain healthy and happy.
Many know the bright side of the holy Himalayan region with its epic nature, Mother Ganga, the spiritual powerspots and the ancient tradition of purification and meditation for liberation. Sadly, this region has a huge shadow too, namely a high level of alcoholic and drug addicted men who gamble and abuse women. This results in dysfunctional and toxic families. The children and women of these families become physically, mentally and emotionally adversely affected which creates further issues such as impoverishment and lack of values which burden the whole society.
The education, healing and well-being of children with such traumatic backgrounds is paramount. And part of the Stree team‘s vision is to offer solution-oriented support. Stree is committed to help disempowered local women and their children, providing education, free food, Ayurveda medicines and traditional home remedies. Stree seeks to bring back respect and strength to women.
To help financing the big mission, Stree provides paid classes, courses and consultations in Ayurveda across India and worldwide. The profits from these services go towards the network of people who give time and skills towards product production, the sourcing and designing of products as well as training women in ethics, wellness and self-empowerment.
