The Gita Bhawan Mishthan, sweet shop and cafe, is one of the best and most famous places in Rishikesh to buy delicious Indian sweets. Badam Burfi, Kaju Katli, Ladoos and other specialities. All sweets and meals are freshly prepared by devotees of Gita Bhavan ashram.
Gita Bhawan is a well-established ashram right on the banks of Ganga in the Swargashram and Ram Jhula area. It comprises the Lakshmi Narayan Temple, a small museum dedicated to Indian mythology, a large accommodation complex with more than 1000 rooms as well as a satsang hall for meditation and discourses on spiritual topics. Last but not least, there are also a couple of bathing-ghats in front of the ashram providing safe facilities for holy dips in Ganga.
The gated property has a lovely garden in its centre with an ancient Bayan tree. It is believed to be the site of penance of many renowned saints, such as Swami Ramtirth. The property has a serene saintly atmosphere, despite the many guests and activities.

+ Book Shop and own book publisher and press. All books are printed by Gita Press Gorakhpur which is respected as outstanding distribution house for classic and contemporary books focusing on Hindu spiritual culture and traditions. A classic bestseller is the Shrimadbhagvadgita with pictures and translation, for example.
+ Gita Book Press was established in 1923 by Brahmalina Shri Jayadayalji Goyandka, in order to “serve humanity for truth, love and peace”. The institution’s main objective is to promote and spread the principles of Sanatana Dharma, the Hindu religion among the general public by publishing Gita, Ramayana, Upanishads, Puranas, discourses of eminent daints and other character-cultivating books and magazines (at highly subsidised prices).
