Arvind Sharma opened his yoga school in 2011. Just two years later in 2013, he founded the now well-known and renowned "Rishikesh Yog Dham", where he is Lead Instructor and has been training students from all over the world.

It is fascinating to hear Arvind talk about the path that lead him there. He recalls his early childhood and how his grandfather took him regularly to Sivananada Ashram. Or how a particular sage kept coming to his home. Certainly two important influences in Arvind‘s life.

Although the spiritual culture of India and yogic sciences were indeed presented to him right after birth, on a silver platter so to speak, he did follow his passion for cooking and food after college. Inspired by his mother‘s cooking skills, Arvind studied Hotel Management and got his practical training in Hyderabad. However, his career as chef came to an abrupt halt. Due to a thyroid issue he could not stay in the heat of the kitchen and stoves.

Arvind‘s family called him back to Rishikesh. His brother took him to a yoga instructor here, with the aim to faciliate Arvind‘s self-healing. Those weeks were very tough. Daily morning and evening classes. And “zero service“. No comparison to what Arvind‘s yoga school offers to students these days early in morning (hot herbal infusions or Tulsi tea). He attended the yoga classes together with one other student, and they even had to bring their own warm water for the morning cleansing practices.

After only two months, Arvind felt much better, and a potential new trajectory opened up for him: to learn yoga and eventually teach it. A few months after immersing himself into yoga studies with the first guru, a second guru showed up in Arvind‘s family village. A sage from the deep Himalayas. He got immediately Arvind‘s attention. The way this monk performed Bhastrika Pranayama was just mind blowing. The sound he generated was as if a dozen of yogis were present.

Almost a year of “chasing and begging“ this guru, Arvind was accepted as student. And then the chapter of an extremely intense and insightful period  in the Himalayas begun. Many months of 1:1 talks, studies, meditation and yoga practice, at times deep in the forest. Later on, following a stint as teacher in Shanghai, Arvind returned to Rishikesh.

Getting mentored by a great Himalayan guru is a privilege, and it goes without saying that those students who can benefit from Arvind‘s knowledge and experience nowadays are very lucky. Over the years, Arvind specialised in Body Alignment.

Rishikesh Yog Dham is a yoga school with its very own serene, retreat-like building in Tapovan. Surrounded by lots of greenery, the property offers 15 bedrooms and two yoga halls, all with beautiful mountain views. Typically, the number of course participants are limited in order to provide the care and attention each yoga student deserves.

Visit the website of Rishikesh Yog Dham. Arvind and his team offer Yoga Teacher Trainings all through the year (200, 300 and 500 hours certifications; Yoga Alliance U.S.), workshops as well as drop in classes. In person and due to demand also online.
